This card… was surprisingly difficult to make. And frustrating… But anyway, this card is a response to four challenges. CAS(E) This Sketch, Allsorts challenge, Moving Along With The Times, and Seize the Birthday.
The layout came from the sketch provided by CAS(E) This Sketch. It is a very straight-forward sketch, theoretically, and really lets the sentiment be the focal point.
With that in mind, it made sense to tie in with Moving Along With The Times’s “Words Only, No Image” challenge, and Allsorts Challenge Blog’s “Sentiment in focus”. The sketch lends itself to them very well.
Seize the Birthday’s challenge is an open, anything goes challenge, only needing to be birthday related. And considering I wanted my sentiment to be birthday related, it made sense to tie that in too.
The most attention grabbing sentiment stamp I have is this happy stamp from the Altenew Halftones set. I used my spiced marmalade distress ink for that, simply because it’s the best quality ink I have at the moment. I then stamped on “Wishing you a” and “birthday” in black.
Next I needed to get that focal point in the sketch, without it actually being an image. I deduced (by looking at other entries on MAWTT) that adding a pattern is acceptable. So I figured I would add one block of my tile stamps in a subtle colour. I went with silver, because that’s the most subtle colour ink I have at the moment.
If you’re now wondering why you don’t see the tiles, that’s because after stamping on I realised it looked really bad. Did not work at all. Sigh…
Which meant I had to restamp my sentiment on a fresh piece of paper. It actually stamped better the second time, which was nice and slightly reduced my frustration!
After some consideration I decided to add a simple ring pattern. I went for orange and black to keep it in keeping with the already used colours.
It turned out… okay, I guess. Honestly, I’m not that keen. Part of me wishes I’d just stuck with the sentiment and nothing else, but that did look like it was missing something… So this is what I ended up with. At least my stamping is continuing to improve!

Well I love it! What a tale you have told though, I can feel your pain! But hey, you got there in the end and made a super card. You must be pleased with your happy, and brave you stamping around it – tricky to get things all lined up and straight, but you did it! Yeah!!! As for the rings, they are a cute finish, I’m impressed and really pleased you joined us at MAWTT, hope you join us next time too, Jx

Super CAS card and a great take on the sketch, love your choice of colours and I think the circles work perfectly. When I stamp I always stamp first onto a piece of scrap paper and then I find that it stamps better the next time. Perfect card for our challenge
