I’d meant to get this posted hours ago but, well, I hadn’t made it. I had originally intended to make and blog about 2 cards today. When I started making the first one I decided not to include one particular challenge in it, which meant that actually it didn’t need to be made today. This one still did though.
This card is a response to several challenges. The layout comes from retro sketches provided. UPDATE – I got a shout out at retro sketches for this entry!
Inspiration for the card came from the challenge at Inspired By All The Little Things. They provided this image as inspiration:
I’m also using this card as a response to Simon Says Stamp – their Wednesday challenge gave the theme of “touchy feely” – and Craftyhazelnut’s Patterned Paper Challenge.
I started by using my butterfly punch on some strips of patterned paper. I decided to use one of the pieces as a base for the whole shape, just to make it a bit more secure, and stuck the other pieces onto that base to give a striped look.
The butterfly of course was inspired by the picture provided, and I also tried to use colours and patterns that relate to the picture. The soft pink and floral tones, for example.
Next I chose and stamped the sentiment onto the card. I decided to go simple for this. I stamped it directly onto the card-base which in hindsight I don’t think I should have done. Then I chose some more strips of patterned paper for the left hand side of the card.
To assemble the card I stuck the butterfly punched strips with foam tape to raise them up. Initially I was thinking of sticking both of the left strips directly to the card-base, but after some thought I decided to raise one of them up with tape too. I felt that the different dimensions gave the card some texture, which I needed for one of the challenges.
As a final touch I added a pink rhinestone flower into the wing of the butterfly which added a little more texture.
For a card that was hurriedly put together I am relatively happy with it. I think I should have mounted the whole lot onto some sort of background paper rather than directly onto the card-base. It turned out well enough though.
