Today’s card is a fairly simple birthday card. Green is a popular choice at this time of year, being picked up in challenges that focus on Spring, Easter, and St. Patrick’s day. For this card the green challenges were from Simon Says Stamp’s Wednesday challenge, and the Mod Squad challenge.
The layout is based on the one provided by CAS(E) this Sketch. I flipped the sketch around to make it fit better with what I wanted to do, but otherwise stayed true to the given image.
I started by stamping my sentiment. I wanted something that really stood out, and “Happy” from my Altenew’s Halftone Happy set is the only stamp that I have that seemed suitable. Of course I used green ink to stamp it. I then used the coordinating outline stamp to edge it with black. It was a bit difficult to line up but I think I did a reasonable job.
I decided I wanted to cut out the sentiment. I believe this stamp set has a matching die set, but I don’t have a die cutter so I don’t have that. Instead I carefully cut it out with my craft knife, than ran black ink around the edges to help it stand out a bit more.
Next I sorted through my various snippets of papers to look for green papers to use for the rest of the design of the card. Using snippets means I can link this to Pixie’s Snippets Playground too, and the patterned paper gives me a good excuse to also link in to Craftyhazelnut’s Patterned Paper. I found a few different papers that seemed like they would work and layered them up together to choose which seemed to go best together.
I assembled the card by sticking on the scraps of paper. I worked out where I wanted to position the “Happy”, and stamped “birthday” in black beneath that. I wanted the “Happy” to stand out so I stuck it on using dimensionals.
I’m actually very happy with how this card worked out. I think it worked really well and makes a nice CAS card. If it had been an option I would have preferred to use the die to cut the sentiment, and the stamping didn’t take quite as well as I would have liked. Other than that, I’m pleased with it.

VERY pretty, love how you rotated the Sketch. Wonderful shades of green and yay to you for fussy cutting (not an easy task!) Thanks so much for playing along with us at The Mod Squad Challenge Donna, Challenge Host.
