Fly High

Fly HighHere’s a second card for today. (Barely – there’s not much left of the day!) I made this as a response to The Color Throwdown with the layout coming from Freshly Made Sketches. I also incorporated Crafty Sentiments Lace and/or Pearls challenge.

The colours provided by The Color Throwdown’s challenge are mint/light aqua, red, orange, and yellow. I had to have a think about how to manage the colours. I don’t have a red ink (that works… it stains my stamps, but doesn’t transfer to paper…) nor a mint or light aqua one. I do have a good orange ink and a reasonable yellow one, so those were options.

I figured I would go the route of using paper to meet the blue and red colours. I found the blue first with one of my lovely pearlised papers that I have. I decided to use that for the left hand strip on the layout.

Next I wanted to make my panel. Having a look at the DT examples over at Freshly Made Sketches I knew I wanted to have an image on my panel. I had a look through my stamps and decided to use my balloon as I haven’t made anything with it in a while. I stamped it directly on to the white panel using Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I then coloured the image in using colouring pencils. I went for orange and yellow to tie those colours in. The basket got a touch of brown, and I also lightly shaded the area behind the balloon with blue, though the camera didn’t really pick that up.

Still needing to tie in the red I found a piece of plain red paper and used that for the angled strip on the right hand side of the card. It’s a bit of a darker red than the challenge called for but hopefully that’s not a problem!

I didn’t have a sentiment that seemed to work exactly how I wanted, so I made my own with my Lawn Fawn Jessie’s ABCs stamps, which I’ve been getting a lot of use out from! I cut the sentiment panel down, edged it with my red ink (yay, a use for it!) and then mounted it with foam tape to raise it up a little.

At this point I remembered I had intended to include some lace. Oops. Luckily I had some pearly gems that I could use instead to meet the challenge prompt. I went for some in silver/clear and some in yellow to match the colour scheme. I had a bit of a hard time working out where to place them. How do you decide that?! Anyway, I stuck them on and that was that.

Fly High 2I’m pretty happy with how this card turned out. I think the layout is really nice, the colours work well together, and the stamping came out quite nicely. The gems are actually a pretty touch too.

Love,

Lady Joyful
