Hello, Butterflies!

Hello, Butterflies!Today’s card was wonderfully quick and simple to make, and I enjoyed the process. It’s based on the layout from CAS(E) This Sketch, and the theme comes from Daring Cardmakers‘ and Simon Says Stamp Wednesday‘s animal challenges as well as Cute Card Thursday‘s butterfly or bugs theme. I also later decided to enter it to Alphabet Challenge Blog‘s H is for Hand Coloured Image challenge.

I decided to use each of the three butterflies from Altenew’s Wild Hibiscus alongside the sentiment which comes from Altenew’s Super Script. I positioned the stamps on the card base until I was happy with them, then picked all four up on my acrylic block to stamp in one go. I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink to stamp them directly onto the cardbase.

And… then I restamped them onto a white panel, because the ink didn’t take very well on the cardbase itself. Of course I ended up having to stamp back over it again on the panel because the middle part of each stamp was not properly stamped. Luckily the wording is very easy to line back up, and with that lined up the other stamps lined up perfectly, so the fact it was double stamped is not apparent.

I wanted to colour the butterflies. I decided to paint them with my Seedless Preserves Distress Ink. When I’ve painted with it before I’ve stamped with it first then used water to draw the ink out. This time I did it differently, having stamped them in black to start with. I pressed the ink onto my acrylic block and used a little water to make it into a paintable consistency, then went ahead and coloured in the butterfly. It was really fun and I think it worked wonderfully! For the butterflies’ bodies I did the same but with the Memento ink.

And that was that. I used my tape roller to stick the panel onto the cardbase, trimmed it down where it was slightly too long, and the card was done!

Hello, Butterflies! 2I’m pretty happy with how this card turned out. The ink really comes through as a stronger colour painted this way. The butterflies from this set are lovely, and I adore the font of the sentiment. This was a wonderfully simple yet striking CAS card to make.

Love,

Lady Joyful
