Blue Butterfly Thank You

Blue Butterfly Thank You

The first card I have to share with you today is a CAS card primarily inspired by the Butterfly Challenge‘s C is for Checkered and/or Cyan challenge. I combined it with My Favorite Things‘ sketch challenge, Daring Cardmakers‘ seriously monochromatic challenge, Pixie’s Snippets Playground, and Craftyhazelnut’s Patterned Paper Challenge.

I started by looking through my snippets folder for papers that would meet the checkered and cyan requirements. I found the plain paper first, and then the patterned paper. I knew I wanted to use the patterned paper for the vertical bar part of the layout, especially as the snippet was close to the perfect size already!

Next I cut a butterfly from the plain paper using the largest of the Winged Beauties dies from Sizzix. I immediately realised that having the patterned paper show through the back made it look far too busy. I considered covering the back of the butterfly with blue vellum but then remembered I’d used it up on a previous card… Husband suggested I just put solid paper behind.

I found another snippet of a darker blue paper and coated it with Wink of Stella to make it really stand out. I then glued my butterfly’s wings over the sparkly paper and trimmed around it to fit.

I decided to assemble the card before adding my sentiment. I used Tombow Multi Mono Liquid Glue to attach the strip and the butterfly. I left the very ends of the butterfly’s upper wings unstuck to allow them to lift of the card base slightly. Finally I used my MISTI to help me stamp my sentiment in MFT Black Licorice hybrid ink. The sentiment comes from Avery Elle’s Petal Panel.

Blue Butterfly Thank You 2

I’m quite happy with how this turned out. It’s not exactly what I had in mind going into it, but I think it turned out well enough! I really like the glitter coming through the butterfly.

Love,

Lady Joyful
