I have two cards to share with you today. This first one allowed me a break from making Christmas cards! It’s a response to the current Muse challenge, Less is More‘s challenge to use a primary colour (I went with blue), Allsorts Challenge‘s CAS challenge, and Addicted to CAS‘s Congratulations theme.
The elements I picked from Anita’s card include the butterfly, the large amount of white space, the ombre look and the scripty font. I also (arguably…) emulated the curves when I chose to do a circle rather than the rectangular panel I was originally planning, and also have given the impression of inlaid die cut, though it actually isn’t.
I started by creating an ombre. I kept it fairly simple – first I took a snippet of watercolour paper and applied a layer of water. Then I layered on four different shades of blue, starting with the darkest at the top and moving to the lightest at the bottom. I worked back over them several times to help the colours blend together, but did not blend any colours in my palette, choosing instead just to use each colour directly. Once I was happy with it I set the painted piece aside to dry.
Next I cut out my butterfly, which is a Sizzix die. I used card in the same white as my card base. I then die cut my dried painted panel (after finishing off the drying process with my heat gun) and adhered the butterfly onto it, before adhering the circle to the card base.
Finally I added my scripty birthday sentiment which I stamped in black ink.
I really like how this turned out. It was very simple to put together but I feel quite striking. I like the idea of perhaps creating a set of these using different colours for the circles.
Love,
Lady Joyful
Beautiful card! I love the clear space you’ve left, which really draws the eye to the butterfly as a focal point. It looks so pretty, and the scripty sentiment is just fab! Love it! Thanks so much for playing along with us at Less is More 🙂
