Home Sweet Home

Home Sweet HomeI made a total of four cards today. And yet somehow the one I needed to have made to blog about was the one I left until last. I’ll have to write this quickly to make sure it does actually publish today..! I decided to use my Avery Elle Home Sweet Home stamp set for this card as I haven’t used it in quite a while.

I started by creating my card base from a piece of kraft card stock. I chose kraft for a couple of reasons. Firstly I don’t currently have any white card stock that would be suitable for card bases. And secondly because I wanted a nice neutral colour for my starting point.

Next I picked out my patterned paper so that I would know what colours to work with for my stamped image. I thought the green diamonds fit nicely with the teepee I wanted to use, so I went with them. I decided to use red for my sentiment strip as it would be a nice contrast to the green pattern. With two bold coloured elements I wanted my third panel to be a bit more muted. I went for a neutral brown and added texture with a woodgrain embossing folder. I then picked out a creamy colour for stamping my teepee onto.

Once I’d stamped the teepee I coloured it in. I kept the colouring very simple, adding a little shading to the flaps and the right hand side of the tent. I also coloured the inside of the tent black. For the bands on the teepee I tied in the colours of my other papers, and again tried to add a bit of shading. I then fussy cut the teepee, leaving a small border on all sides.

After laying out the elements to check the positioning I added my sentiment to my red panel. The sentiment is from the same stamp set and I heat embossed it in white.

I used my tape runner to adhere the green patterned paper on the left hand side of my card. I used the same adhesive for my textured panel and sentiment panel. I then used liquid glue to attach the teepee.

Home Sweet Home 2

I’m quite happy with how this card turned out. It is more or less how I had pictured it in my mind before I started. The shading I added to the teepee doesn’t show up too well which is a little annoying, but that’s only a very minor complaint!
