Rainbow Daisy Doodle

Rainbow Daisy Doodle

This card really took me outside my comfort zone. I’m not entirely sure how I feel about it… There is absolutely no stamping on this. Everything you see I did by hand (aside from the die cut window, that is).

I started by creating the window by die cutting a partial circle from a card base that I’d folded from some watercolour paper. (The watercolour paper I have is actually a bit lighter weight than I would really like for a card base, but I should use it up before I buy the heavier stuff.)

Next I marked through the window onto the inside of the card so that I would know where to create my daisy. I started by drawing the little circle for the centre, then roughly doodled in the petals. Once I had the flower drawn I started to add in the colour using watercolour pencils. I aimed to make a rainbow of sorts. I added several layers of colour, drying in between, to build the colour up properly. For the petals at the black I used a blend of each of the colours on either side of it.

Returning to the front of the side I used each of the coloured pencils I’d used to doodle a swirling pattern down the side.

Finally I created my sentiment. I took a snippet of black paper and used my white pencil to hand write the sentiment. I then went back over it thickening some of the lines. I went over it a second time with my white gel pen, which made the pencil almost shadow the letters. I then fussy cut the sentiment and adhered it across the window in my card.

Rainbow Daisy Doodle 2I really can’t decide how I feel about this. I’ve actually come to like the daisy, and think it worked out how I wanted. But the doodles down the side just look messy to me (especially as the spacing went wrong and it ended up coming too far in). Also I don’t really like my handwriting so I feel like the sentiment looks silly too…

Love,

  1. Love the colour scheme-I’ve just made a rainbow sun catcher-I see what you mean about the side doodles but it has potential 🙂
