Hogs and Kisses

Hogs and KissesI don’t often use brown as my main colour on a card. In fact I don’t think I ever have. But I think it was definitely a good choice for this card!

With my brown card base already prepared I started by creating my pig. He comes from Avery Elle’s Hogs and Kisses stamp set. First I stamped him onto a snippet of white card then used the coordinating die to cut him out. Next I stamped him onto snippets of pink and red. I cut out the head part and used my glue pen to adhere it to the white equivalent. I repeated the process with his feet. The hand-trotters were set aside for the time being. I stamped his face a second time and fussy cut his snout once more to add just a tiny bit more dimension there.

I stamped the heart onto a snippet of red and cut that out before stamping and heat embossing my sentiment onto it. I then adhered a piece of red foam behind it before adhering into place on my base pig. This gave it some dimension and made it seem as though the pig is holding it out in front of himself. I then fussy cut his hand and adhered them into place.

That was actually everything that I knew I would be doing for the card, and the rest I kind of made up as I went along. I really wanted the pig and his sentiment to be the focal point of the card, so anything else had to be pretty subtle. After some contemplation I decided to make a little background scene for the pig.

I took the grass stamp from Clearly Besotted’s Feeling Sheepish and stamped it twice, side by side, with my embossing ink to give a watermark, tone-on-tone look. It was a bit messy where they overlapped, but I knew I’d put the pig over that and hide it, so it didn’t matter too much. I then took the tiny flower stamp from Avery Elle’s Pixie Dust and stamped it so that it would appear to be coming from the grass.

At this stage I thought I was done, and used my Tombow Multi Mono Liquid glue to attach the pig in place. I realised after doing so that I still wanted a little bit more. So I took the three little heart stamps from Hogs and Kisses and stamped them above the pigs head. And then the card was finished!

Hogs and Kisses 2I really like this card! I think it is very cute. The pig pops very well against the background, and the effect is beautifully CAS.  The watermarked background helps the focus stay on the pig whilst adding a bit of extra interest on the card. I did just realise that I probably should have attached the pig so that his feet were either level with or below the bottom of the grass, as it looks a bit like he is levitating now… But that’s only a minor problem!

    1. Thanks Di! Yes, I enjoyed the challenge of coming up with a card that featured brown. The pig stamp sprung to mind, because pigs like mud, and mud is brown! At least, that’s how my brain works 😛
