I finally got some more white card in, and of course I had to make a card that really lets the white stand out. And it is a lovely white! I’m in love with the cardstock – previously I’d just used generic card, and it worked well enough, but I can definitely feel the quality difference in this!
My starting point with this card was the bright pink flower. I used the Sizzix Bigz Flower Layers with Heart Petals. I then added piercing detail to the outer edge of each layer. I don’t have a piercing tool or piercing mat so I made do with a needle for the tool and just an old rubber (eraser) underneath to poke into. It worked well enough, though it was tiresome for my poor fingers!
Once the flower was done I used my glue pen to adhere the layers to one another. I then created the circle for them to sit on, die cutting it from some green mirror cardstock.
I decided to work on the card base next. First I applied the strip of floral washi tape, and then with the help of my MISTI I stamped the sentiment from Avery Elle’s Petal Panel. I used Tombow Multi Mono Liquid Glue to adhere the mirror circle to the card base, slightly overlapping the washi tape, and then again to attach the flower onto it.
My final touch was the butterfly. I used a butterfly punch to create it from a piece of yellow cardstock, to tie in the yellow in the washi tape. I then very lightly sponged the edges of the wings with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink to give it a bit more depth. I curled the wings slightly with my fingers, then used the Tombow on the body and stuck it onto the flower.
I am pleased with this card. The colours are very bright and cheerful without being overpowering. The mirror card adds a nice something extra, even if it doesn’t show properly on the camera! And I think the piercing detail really looks great on the flower – it’s definitely tempting me to acquire proper paper piercing tools!
Love,
Lady Joyful

It is a nice colour 🙂 Though sometimes a bit impractical! Shows dirt very easily!

Wonderful piercing on your flower petals which again shows that special tools (whilst they may make the job easier) are not a necessity! Your piercing is very neat. Love the bright and spring look of your card. So cheery in this dull weather. Thank you for fluttering by my challenge. Hugs Mrs A.

Yay! Yes, I found it a bit fiddly to hold the needle at times. I’d suggest taking breaks if it starts to be uncomfortable 🙂

managed some nice roses and leaves that i hope to finish and create a subtle card with soon thank you again for the inspiration. thankfully it wasn’t as tricky as i had thought as i used cheaper and so thin paper and a nice sharp pin.

That sounds great! 🙂 I’m so glad I could inspire you! A sharp pin would definitely be beneficial – I used the same one I unclog my glossy accents with, which isn’t as sharp as it could be.

need to finish my card and hope for a bit of sunlight so i can take some photos to create a nice post.

I have to do without sunlight – there’s not much outside of work hours! 😉 Good thing the days are getting lighter 🙂

I can craft without it but my pictures are very bad in quality without sunlight as I am not very good at taking photos and i thinkthe camera built into my tablet device is probably fairly poor. I have many cards started that need finishing and taking photos of so hopefully will get to it over the weekend.

Yes sunlight definitely affects picture quality. Having such limited light in the winter has definitely been an issue, especially when (as often happens) I come home from work, make a card and want to be able to photgraph and blog it the same evening. I have managed to work out a photography setup that works well enough for the time being, and in the worst cases I can always lighten them up digitally!

I have tried but after a few hours of getting irritated my husband calmly said that perhas i should try take the photos when it was lighter. i felt very foolish for getting irritated over the photos so i must be a bit more patient.

I completely understand that! I get very frustrated it at myself. Sometimes it is best to just step away 🙂 Having good light to start with is definitely the best option, but it can be annoying to have to rely on the weather being good enough!
