Everyone needs a holiday sometimes, even penguins and seals! I had fun putting together this beach scene card for these sweet characters. I must admit I’m a little jealous of them – I wouldn’t mind a seaside holiday!
I started by stamping out my characters. The penguin and seal both come from Paper Smooches’ Chilly Chums stamp set. I also stamped the cap from Chubby Chums Pals, and added the glasses from the same set onto the penguin. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink to stamp all the elements. I then used coloured pencils to colour the images in. I used grey for the seal, and a soft yellow for the beak and feet of the penguin. I used the same soft yellow as well as a blue to colour the cap. I then fussy cut the images.
Next I created the elements of my scene. I used one of the stitched waves from Pink and Main’s Scallop Waves Dies with a soft yellow cardstock to create a sand bank. I then used one of the scallop waves from the same set to cut a piece of white and a piece of blue, which I layered together to give the look of the sea against the shore.
For the sky I used a piece of bold blue patterned paper. I used another piece of patterned paper to create the top part of my umbrella, using a Memory Box die called Come Rain or Shine. I already had the handle of the umbrella cut from some gold mirror card, so I used that too. The embossed lines on the umbrella were a bit too faint, so I coloured over them lightly to help them stand out a bit more.
The final elements was my sentiment. I cut a piece of white card with the middle size die from Lawn Fawn’s Simple Puffy Clouds, then stamped on a sentiment from Chilly Chums and heat embossed it.
I used double-sided tape to adhere the cloud patterned paper to my card base. I then applied a line of liquid glue to the bottom of the waves and adhered them to the very bottom of the card base, before sliding the sand in behind it. The handle of the umbrella is attached with liquid glue, then the top of the umbrella is raise up with foam tape. I used liquid glue for my characters, and then foam tape again to attach the cloud. As a final touch I added Glossy Accents to the penguin’s glasses.
I am for the most part pleased with this card. I do think it would have been better if I’d made the penguin’s glasses into sunglasses though. I had considered it, but I was worried about ruining the card if I coloured over them. In hindsight I feel it would have been better to just be confident and go for it!
