I made a card. Woohoo! It took me a while to get started with it – I had the idea, I knew exactly what I would do and how to do it, and yet I couldn’t get myself to move and start it. Clearly I got there eventually though!
I started by folding some white stamping card to create my card base, and laying out the stamps to get a rough idea of my layout. All the stamps I used are from Lawn Fawn’s Lovable Legends. Once I knew how I wanted it to look I stamped the boat and masked it off. I then lay out the waves and stamped them three times, with the middle line of waves being second generation stamping to differentiate it somewhat and add some interest. I then removed the mask from the boat.
The kraken itself is actually one I stamped, coloured and fussy cut some time ago and had in my stash. As I had limited time to work on the card it made sense to make use of it! I laid it on the card where I wanted it, then used it as a guide to work out where to add my water splashes.
The sentiment required some masking. The “kraken” word stamp says “What’s kraken?” so I had to mask off both ends to get just the single word that I wanted. I also masked of the n from “have an”. I decided to add the smallest exclamation mark after the “birthday”, but managed to misalign it slightly. It’s so tiny that it’s difficult to line up!
Finally I used some foam tape on the back of the kraken to raise it off of the card base and help it stand out even more.
I’m very happy with this card. I like the black and white scene behind the kraken as it really helps it pop. I’m also pleased with the flow of the layout, though I do wonder if I should have spaced it slightly differently as there’s perhaps a bit too much white space at the bottom of the card, making it look top heavy. Or maybe not. Maybe it just represents the endless depth of the sea. Or something..!
Love,
Lady Joyful

I love how you used different sentiments by masking off words you didn’t want ☺

Thanks 🙂 I know some people perform “stamp surgery” and clip stamps apart to achieve the same, but I can’t quite bring myself to do that!

Oh no thats a waste of the stamp then as I think you would want the whole of a sentiment a lot more often than needing just a word. It’s fiddly enough lining things up, why make more work for yourself.

That’s my logic too. The people that do it say it’s easy enough to line them back up together on a block, and if that works for them then that’s great, but I prefer just masking off the extra bits as required, rather than cutting them up 🙂

Your gi-normous kraken (as I’ve decided, based on the size of the ship, in comparison) is absolutely awesome! Fabulous colouring and, indeed, delightfully punny! A wonderful card for Cupcake Inspirations’ 400th Challenge Birthday Celebration! So glad you joined us!

Thank you Carol! I do agree that the kraken is ginormous, though it could also be that the ship is very far away!
