Birthday Smooches

I decided to make another card with the layout I used yesterday as I had so much fun with it. This time a birthday card rather than an Easter one. I kept the colour palette fairly simple – mostly white with a pop each of red and green for contrast. The colour palette is gender neutral so this could work as a card for just about anyone!

I started by cutting a piece of white card to just smaller than my card base, for which I had chosen a brown one from my stash. I then ran the white card through my Big Shot with the Darice Birthday Collage embossing folder.

Next I stamped the cow from Avery Elle’s Hogs and Kisses stamp set and added one of the cow-appropriate sentiments into the centre of the heart. I then cut the cow out using the coordinating die. I used my colouring pencils to colour the image in.

Next I cut a snippet of green card stock to be my sentiment panel. I used a small birthday sentiment from Altenew’s Super Script and stamped it with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink, which is the same ink I’d used for stamping out the cow. I then took the grass sprout dies from the Hogs and Kisses set and used them to cut into the green panel, before using my paper trimmer to trim away the excess, leaving the sprigs of grass poking out the top of the green panel. The strip still didn’t quite look right so I rounded out the top corners to give it a more natural look.

The final element for my card was a rectangle of vellum to act as a buffer between my focal image and the embossed panel it would be sitting on. Once all the elements were ready I used foam tape to adhere the sentiment panel and image to the vellum, then applied Tombow Multi Mono Liquid Glue behind them on the back of the vellum to attach that to the embossed panel. I decided to use some very strong double-sided tape on the back of the embossed panel to make sure it adhered fully to the card base.

I’m really happy with this card. It came out just how I hoped it would! It’s sweet and simple, yet I feel effective. And I’m very happy with how my colouring turned out! A funny aside here… As I was colouring the cow’s nose I noticed that the nostrils could be interpreted as eyes, making the “nose” section actually be the face of someone wearing a cow costume. And after realising that I couldn’t stop seeing a person dressed in a cow costume whenever I looked at it! Am I going crazy? Can you see it too?

Love,

Lady Joyful

  1. Bwahaha, I can definitely see it, Joy, and now I can’t NOT see it!! Love it! And I love the layout, too, and how you’ve designed both the Easter card and the Birthday card using it! Simple, but hugely impactful in a happy way!! Happy Easter!! Hugs, Darnell
