Wobbles The Pig

Knowing that I would be finishing late from work today I started this card before leaving in the morning. I figured that way I might actually manage to get to bed on time. That was a bit optimistic of me! Once I started working on it after getting home I kept thinking of things I wanted to add or change, so it took longer than expected. That’s partly why it ended up not having a sentiment – I ran out of time. I think it works fine without one though.

My starting point with this card was the pig. I stamped and die cut a piece of white card with the pig from Avery Elle’s Hogs and Kisses. I then stamped it again onto pink card, added a little shading with a pink pencil, then fussy cut it before adhering the pink pig over the one on the white card. I then stamped again onto red card and fussy cut the heart, as well as restamping just the trotters onto an offcut of the pink so that I could adhere those into place over the heart. I decided to add a layer of glossy accents to the heart and left it to dry whilst I was at work.

Once I was back home I started working on the other elements of my scene. I used three different shades of green card stock to create grass using the stitched dies from Pink and Main’s Scallop Wave Dies. I also cut them with the same circle die that I used for the base of my focal panel to make sure they would properly fit onto it. The circle is cut from the same white card as the card base and the base layer of the pig. I sponged blue ink onto the circle to give the impression of sky.

As I didn’t have a lot of time and didn’t want to deal with colouring I stamped the other images for my card onto snippets of coloured card or paper. The barn, fence and hay bale all come from Lawn Fawn’s Critters On The Farm. I used pale yellow for the hay bale, brown for the fence (which I did twice), red for the barn and grey for its roof. I then fussy cut all of the elements as I do not (yet!) have the coordinating dies.

With all my elements for the image panel ready I started laying things out to work out what should go where. I used Tombow Multi Mono Liquid glue and adhered my three grass/hill layers into place with the darkest at the back and the lightest at the front. I used the same glue for my barn which I positioned slightly overhanging the edge of the circle. As the fence is two separate pieces I used my ruler to line them up against, allowing me to make sure they were straight and so give the impression of a continuous fence. As the parts of the fence are a bit fiddlier I used my glue pen for those. The hay bale and pig were again adhered with the Tombow. I then carefully cut away any parts that were overhanging the edge of the circle.

Before attaching the focal panel to the card base (or the heart to the pig – I’m getting to that part!) I cut a piece of pink gingham patterned paper to create a diagonal strip behind the focal panel. I adhered that with the Tombow glue which allowed me time to properly wiggle the strip into place so that it would be exactly where I wanted it. I then used foam tape on the back of the circle to give some dimension.

The final element, and the reason for the pig’s name (as given by husband!) was an action wobbler. I’ve never used an action wobbler before, but it seemed like fun. The shiny red heart is adhered to the base pig with the action wobbler in between, which means the heart shakes and wobbles when flicked. It’s definitely fun! And it adds some simple interaction to the card. The wobbler itself is a bit higher than I would prefer though, meaning that the heart sticks out quite far from the pig.

I’m very pleased with this card, specifically with the focal panel. The little scene came together nicely and is very sweet. The perspective works well (though the fence does look a little large, so perhaps I should have adhered that slightly further forwards.) The elements all came together nicely. And the action wobbler is a fun addition. The only thing I’m not sure about on the card is the pink gingham. I wanted something there, and that seemed the best choice from what I could find, but I’m not entirely sure it was the right pattern to use.
