Unbelievable Bright Birthday

I’m still on a CAS kick and have another one layer card to share with you today. This time it is a birthday card with some very bright and cute characters which I coloured with watercolour pencils and Wink of Stella to really make them pop against the black and white of the rest of the card.

I decided to use only stamps from Lawn Fawn’s Lovable Legends for this card. I started by playing around with the stamps to work out my layout. Initially I was planning on using all three of the characters from the set, but the perspective made the yeti look huge so I decided to leave him out. Once I had the layout planned I stamped the hats first and masked them off. I then stamped the kraken and Nessie, and removed the hat masks. I masked off Nessie to stamp my back two lines of waves, one of which is second generation, then removed the mask to stamp the front line of wave so that it would appear to be in front of Nessie. Finally I stamped my sentiment. I used MFT Black Licorice hybrid ink for all my stamping.

With everything stamped out I got on with the colouring. I used watercolour pencils to lay down my colours. I wanted the characters to be bright so I went for orange and yellow shades for the kraken, and purples and pink for Nessie. For the hats I tried to give some contrast, and went with blue for the kraken and green for the Nessie. I didn’t fuss too much about light source for the characters, but I did add in some shading just to help give them a bit of shape and dimension. I used my Wink of Stella to blend out the colour, which added some fun shimmer to them.

This card, quite unintentionally, ended up rather similar to one I made before! I guess I like the look of these cute creatures on a black and white scene. It really helps them to pop! I am happy with my colouring, though it’s not perfect. And I’m really pleased with the amount of glitter and shimmer on them. I’d bought a new Wink of Stella recently as mine wasn’t working too well. Still haven’t opened it, and I figured I’d try adding a bit more water to see if I could get the last of the glitter out of my original one. In doing so I noticed that there was a flow issue, which I fixed and now it is working far better! I guess I didn’t need to get the replacement after all!

Love,

Lady Joyful
