Happy Cat

Today has been a very busy day, but I wanted to make a card to share with you here. This is what I ended up creating. I probably should have come up with a quicker project as this one did take a little time, but it was the one I had in my mind so it’s what I made!

I started by cutting a panel of watercolour paper to the size of a card front. I cut myself a cloud mask from a snippet of scrap paper using the largest of Lawn Fawn’s Simple Puffy Clouds dies then used that to help me sponge some subtle clouds all across the  panel.

Next I took the word “happy” from a happy birthday stamp set (I don’t have a link for this one, unfortunately) and stamped it repeatedly across the clouds with a darker blue ink. At this point I realised that perhaps I should have made my clouds a bit less subtle, but never mind!

With my sky background complete I moved on to my hill. I used Lawn Fawn’s Flower Border die to cut a hill from a snippet of card stock, then ran it through again with bright orange and bright yellow. I carefully snipped away the heads of the flowers from the orange and yellow, and adhered them over the green. I made sure to keep the orange flower centres to put into the yellow flowers for some nice contrast.

On a second snippet of watercolour card I stamped the ball and one of the cats from The Greeting Farm’s Purfect Cats stamp set. I coloured them in with my watercolour pencils and blended out with Wink of Stella for some shimmer. I chose yellow and orange tones for the ball with blue spots as I wanted it to coordinate well with the colours I’d already used. For the cat I chose to make it white with pale grey spots.  I then cut them out with the coordinating dies.

The final elements were the sentiment and the ‘trail’ for the ball. I originally wanted to use a stamp which I believe is meant to be a bounce mark (though it may be a piece of confetti/streamer thing) but I couldn’t work out how to make it look right, so I stamped the line of dots instead with the idea that it represents the ball rolling away from the cat who is chasing it. The sentiment I used came from Pink and Main’s Dinomite.

Assembly was very straight forward. I used liquid glue on the back of all the elements to adhere them in place. I trimmed down the panel slightly so that it would have a border of the card base showing. I did consider using a coloured card base but in the end decided that white looked best. I also decided to round the corners on both the panel and the card base.

I’m pretty pleased with this card. I always love these little cats because their so cute. He definitely looks like he’s having fun playing out in the sunshine! I do feel a little as though I “wasted time” adding in the clouds when the repeated “happy” almost completely disguises them, but at least I had fun doing it!
