Mehndi Birthday

After the fun I had with yesterday’s one layer card I decided to make another today. Where yesterday’s was fairly gender neutral and featured a lot of heat embossing, today’s is definitely more feminine and whilst it has some heat embossing it focuses more on colouring. It was a fun card to make, and I’ve got several ideas for creating with these stamps again.

I started by cutting, scoring and folding a card base from some pale pink card. I then lined up the largest stamp from Uniko’s Marvellous Mehndi set onto the card base and picked it up with my MISTI. I stamped it onto the card base with Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide ink, stamping it twice to ensure I got a good impression. I left the stamp in place in the MISTI whilst I moved on with my design.

I wanted to add some colour to certain areas of the design. I decided to use my coloured pencils and started by colouring the leaf-like areas with green. I concentrated the green towards the middle and faded it out to the edge, then I went back over it with a white pencil to blend it out.

For some other the other areas of the pattern I bought in a couple of pinks and the white in order to create a variety of shades of pink. I also used my white Caran d’Ache pencil, which gives a lovely bright white shade, to colour in the rings in the pattern. I did consider colouring the whole image but decided I liked how it looked with just a few areas coloured.

Once all the colouring was completed I put the card base back in my MISTI and stamped the mehndi one more time with the Worn Lipstick ink. That way the lines that had been dulled by the coloured pencils were made bolder again.

After leaving the card for a while to make sure the ink was completely dry I went back in to add my sentiment. The sentiment comes from Happy Little Stampers‘ Everyday Sentiments set (which I believe is now retired). I stamped with clear embossing ink then heat embossed with some white embossing powder. I then restamped the Happy and added another layer of the embossing powder to make it really stand out.

I’m very happy with this card. It is so pretty and I really love the beautiful mehndi stamp. I’m definitely looking forward to playing with it more in future. I feel like the green lost some of its vibrancy which I think happened when I heat embossed, so perhaps the pencils I used don’t like heat very much… It’s still nice despite the colour change

Love,

      1. Lol! Yep, a whole set would be good – any thoughts on Instagram? People seem to make and sell a lot of things on there too.

      2. I’m on Instagram – it’s actually more user-friendly than Twitter! And of course, it’s another way for Charlie to reach out to her public…lol!!

      3. I’ve never used Twitter either! Guess I’m not a good millenial… 😛 I’m on Facebook, and I do have a Pinterest account though I only really use if for browsing, not making my own lists.
