Bright Birthday Flowers

When I started working on a card for today it was not this one. It was a card with some clouds and a balloon. I got it most of the way done, and then set it aside and decided to make this instead! That’s quite unusual for me – usually I like to work through one card at a time, and do each one more or less all in one go. Nothing wrong with doing it this way though!

I started by folding a card base using my favourite stamping card. I then placed the card base into my MISTI and started on my stamping. The floral images come from Altenew’s Brush Art Floral stamp set.

I worked out how I wanted to position everything, then stamped the greenery using the Key Lime ink from Simon Says Stamp’s Fresh Fruit ink cube set. I then stamped my two smaller flowers with the Lemon Zest ink, and the largest flower with the Orange Slush.

After finishing my florals I went on to add my sentiment. I picked one out from Happy Little Stampers‘ Bold Birthday Sentiments (which may be retired as I couldn’t find it on their site) and after carefully lining it up on my MISTI I stamped it with the Watermelon ink.

I did take a moment to think about whether I should add anything else, but eventually decided just to leave it as it was.

I really love the bright colours in this card. It’s very happy and summery! I had considered masking off the different elements but decided it would take too long. The sketchy look of the images actually lends itself well to the overlapping look, so I think it works well enough as is. Plus the examples on the back of the stamps’ backing paper shows them overlapping in the same way – if it’s good enough for the designer, it’s good enough for me!

Love,

Lady Joyful
