This card really built itself as I went along. I didn’t have a clue what I would end up with when I started creating. As I created elements the ideas started flowing, and this is what I came up with in the end.
I started with some dry embossing. First I trimmed down a piece of cream and a piece of brown card stock so that together they would perfectly fit my card front. I then embossed the cream with the lattice folder from the Sizzix Textured Impressions Butterfly Lattice set, and the brown with the Taylored Expressions Woodgrain Embossing Folder.
I used my tape runner to adhere the embossed elements to my card base in order to begin building my scene. I used the wood textured paper as flooring, and the lattice as the walls. I then cut a strip of darker creamy coloured card and adhered that over the join between the two embossed panels to hide the join and give the appearance of a base board.
Next I started working on all the other little elements of my scene. I stamped out one of the dogs from The Greeting Farm’s Lucky Dogs using MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I also stamped out the bone and bowl from the same set, as well as the rug from The Greeting Farm’s Kitty Stacks.
As I wanted to stick with the tan/brown neutrals I made sure to pull out only those colours of my alcohol markers. I have the 36 set of Yosoo alcohol markers. I used all of the E (beige to brown) shades that I had to colour in my dog, then bought in a couple of cool greys to give her a black nose.
I used the lightest E shade and my lightest yellow grey to colour in the various circles of the rug. I didn’t add any shading to the rug as I knew most of it would be hidden anyway. I then used my yellow greys to colour the dog’s bowl and bone as well.
Once all the elements were coloured I carefully fussy cut them. Initially I was going to leave a white border but I decided that it looked too stark and instead cut up to the lines.
After playing around with the different elements I decided I wanted to make it look as though the dog is dreaming of the bone. In order to create the look I wanted I cut out some thought bubbles using the smaller two of Lawn Fawn’s Simple Puffy Clouds. I freehand cut an even smaller one too. I had used white card to make the clouds but again decided the white was too stark so I coloured over them with the lightest yellow grey.
The final element to prepare was my sentiment. I cut a snippet of the cream card (that I’d used for my wall) with a Clearly Besotted banner die. I then placed it in my MISTI and stamped a sentiment from the Lucky Dogs stamp set onto the banner.
With all my elements ready I started assembling the scene. I used my tape runner for the banner, rug, dog, bowl, and all of the thought bubbles. I then used foam squares to add the bone with some dimension.
I am so happy with this card! I love how it turned out. It’s a sweet but simple scene, and I think the neutral colour scheme really works beautifully for it. It was definitely a fun card to make, and I really think that the dog is just adorable.
Love,
Lady Joyful

Thank you! It’s a sweet dog 😀 Colour-wise I was actually thinking of my brother’s dog, which is a chocolate labrador. The shape is not quite right for a lab though 😛
