I have a second card to share with you today! This one is a bit simpler and was fairly quick to make. Perhaps quicker than it should have been – I ended up rushing it a little because time was getting away from me! And now I have to hurry with this blog post too…
I started by making myself a small card base – 9,5cm square – from some alcohol-marker friendly card stock. I then took the boat stamp as well as one of the sentiments from Crafty Ola’s Sail With Me stamp set and stamped them onto the card base with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.
I used my Yosoo Finecolour alcohol markers to colour in the image. I started with the front sail, using three shades of yellow for the yellow stripes. For the white stripes I added shading with my lightest yellow grey. I then used my lightest cool grey to colour the mast. For the hull of the boat I used a variety of brown shades. I chose blue green for the large sail at the back of the boat, then used greens for the little flag on the top. Whilst I have a lot of blues in my collection there are no very pale ones, so I picked out three and coloured the waves using squiggly lines, then as I couldn’t fade the colour to white I gradually spread out the waves towards the bottom of the card to give them impression of them fading away. And then the card was finished!
I have mixed feelings about this card. It worked out a lot better than my first attempt (using water colours – oddly enough the colours got too intense!) but I’m annoyed at myself for rushing it. There are various places were the colour bled which could have been avoided if I’d taken more care. At least I can go back in and tidy them up with my white gel pen.
