Red and Kraft Christmas – MM 264

For this week’s Merry Monday challenge Marcia is challenging us to use kraft and red on our Christmas cards. As I’ve been really busy lately I decided to go for a simple design and let some fun red patterned paper take centre stage.

(This is my second post for the day. Click here to see my previous post, which is my debut project for Incy Wincy Designs.)

My starting point was the red patterned paper. Or in fact, patterned vellum! I have a pad of Christmas themed papers, which has every pattern as a normal patterned cardstock and also in vellum form. It took me a little while to decide whether to use the vellum or the card but I eventually chose the vellum as the red seemed more vibrant.

In order to make the lines of the pattern really stand out I trimmed down a piece of white printer paper to go behind the panel of vellum. Doing so really helped the images pop. Printer paper is very lightweight so met my requirements without adding too much weight or bulk to the card.

Next I stamped and gold heat embossed a sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Merry Messages onto a snippet of kraft card. I trimmed it down and used double-sided tape to adhere it to the vellum. I then added more double-sided tape on the back of the vellum behind where the sentiment strip is in order to hide it, then adhered that to the printer paper. Finally I used double-sided tape on the back of the entire panel and adhered it to the card base.

In some ways I feel like this card is cheating a bit as pretty much all I did was trim down some patterned paper and slap a sentiment on it… Then again, it’s a great way to make a quick card, and to use up some of the paper that has been languishing in my stash. Maybe I should think about making more cards in this style…

  1. Wow, I didn’t know that was red vellum with the design on it. Great idea to add the white printer paper behind it as it does make the design pop. The gold embossed sentiment on kraft looks great. Love your card.

  2. I had no idea that vellum patterned paper existed, so seeing it on your card is doubly delightful! The white pattern on the red keeps your card CAS and oh, how pretty your sentiment panel! Another gem in the HLS CAS gallery; thank you for joining us!
