Christmas Fox – Mari Ko Creations Mid-November 2017 Release

Yesterday was release day at Mari Ko Creations. Being on the release Design Team means that I am able to play with some of the new release before it is available to the public, allowing me to show you examples of some of the fun new stamps. This card uses the new “Fox and His Christmas Tree” stamp set which is so cute – as soon as I saw it I knew I wanted to have a play with it.

I decided to keep the colouring fairly simple on this one. After printing the image out I coloured it with my Spectrum Noir markers, as well as a couple of Yosoo markers. I coloured the fox first, using red Yosoo markers with brown SNs for the shading. I used my lightest grey to add shading to the white areas of the fox. I then moved on to that hat. I decided to colour it with a combination of light blue and blue greens, as I felt a red hat would be a bit much with the red fox. I again used my grey to add shading to the grey areas.

For the Christmas tree I used a variety of greens with a flicking motion in order to add some texture to the tree. It doesn’t look like a realistic tree exactly, but it does give some added interest. I used dark browns for the trunk, then pulled in some purple for the baubles on the tree. For the lights I went with a bright blue combination, as well as a bright orange combination. I added grounding to my image using a variety of light yellow brown shades.

In order to add some more interest and dimension to my colouring I took my white gel pen and added highlights to the baubles, lights, and the fox’s nose. I also added some glitter to the hat, baubles and light using Wink of Stella.

Despite originally planning to make a one layer card I decided to trim my panel down and adhere it on to a card base over some patterned paper. I went through my stash and found some red and white Christmas paper that seemed like it would work well. I trimmed a piece to fit, adhered it to the card base with double sided tape, and attached my image panel over the top. Finally I added a sentiment with a stamp from a retired *Pink and Main stamp set, called Joyful Tidings.

I’m really happy with how this card came together. The patterned paper goes so well with the red fox – almost as if I’d planned it! I wish I was that organised…! The image is so sweet and I really enjoyed colouring it in. I hope to be able to share a few more creations featuring the new release before the end of the month, and encourage you to check out the Mari Ko Creations blog to see what the other designers have come up with.

Love,

Lady Joyful
