Sparkling Petals – Mari Ko Creations Challenge #4

I have a DT project to share with you today for the latest challenge over at the Mari Ko Creations Challenge Blog. The theme for this challenge is sparkle and bling, and the card I created sure has a lot of sparkle!

I started by printing out this wonderful Petals the Unicorn digi onto some alcohol marker friendly patterned paper. I then coloured the image in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I chose light yellow greens for the leaves and soft pinks and peaches for the flowers. I added shading to Petals herself with my lightest grey marker which is a Yosoo alcohol marker.

Once I was happy with the colouring I carefully fussy cut the image out, leaving a small white border around everything. I then found a circle die of a similar size and cut a circle of blue glitter card to fit behind my image.

I picked out my sentiment from Avery Elle’s Be A Unicorn stamp set. I initially tried to stamp it directly on the glitter paper, which wasn’t very clever because I knew full well that it wouldn’t stamp properly on the textured surface! Instead I stamped it onto a snippet of white card, trimmed it down, the rounded the edges by cutting it with a circle die.

I used double-sided tape to adhere my fussy cut image to the glitter circle, then that whole panel to my white card base. I trimmed the overhanging portion of the glitter circle away then carefully positioned my sentiment panel overtop, ensuring I covered the badly stamped attempt that was on the glitter circle.

As a final touch I added a bit more shimmer and shine by putting some clear Wink of Stella on Petal’s wings and horn.

I’m very pleased with how this card turned out. The glitter paper really is so pretty! I wasn’t sure at first whether blue would be the best choice, as I hadn’t used blue on the image I’d coloured. The other glitter papers I had were a bright pink which wasn’t quite the right pink to go with my colouring, or some silver. I’m actually happy I chose the blue as it adds a nice contrast.
