Think Snow – MM 270

With Christmas only a week away it’s time for the last Merry Monday challenge of the year. This time it’s a tic-tac-toe challenge – pick a line, and make a card based on those. I went with the top line, and used stamping, patterned paper and embossing on my card.

I started with my image, which is a digi stamp called Penguin Snowball Fun from Peppercus Design. I printed it out onto some alcohol marker friendly paper and coloured it in using both Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and Yosoo alcohol markers. I used dark cool greys for the dark areas of the penguins, then my lightest greys (which are yellow greys) for the shading on the penguin’s white areas as well as the trim of the hat, bobbles, and the snow. I decided to go non-traditional for the colours of their accessories using greens for one of the hats and the other scarf, blue greens for the second hat and scarf, and then light yellow greens for the trim on the blue-green hat. For the beaks and feet I went with soft orange.

Having finished all my colouring I trimmed down the panel and rounded the corners with my corner chomper. I then started working on my background.

I chose a blue card base and dry embossed it with a lattice embossing folder from Sizzix. I trimmed a snippet of snowflake patterned paper and added narrow strips of blue glitter paper (also snippets) along the top and bottom to appear as a mat. I then adhered the focal image panel to the patterned paper strip before adhering the whole lot to my card base.

I chose a sentiment from The Cat’s Pajamas Poochie Xmas and stamped it onto the corner of my image panel, completing my card.

I’m very happy with this card especially as I initially wasn’t sure where I wanted to go with it. The different blues work well together whilst the pops of green add a bit of extra interest. The sentiment works really well with the snowy scene and the snowflakes on the patterned paper.
