Fairy Birthday

Today was my first day back at work after the holidays and I am exhausted! I did manage to make a quick card though, and I’m going to try to keep the accompanying blog post short too, so that I can get to bed! Let’s hop to it then.

I started by die cutting two circles of white card. I then used washi tape to temporarily attach them to my card base before trimming off the overhanging edges of the circle.

I then placed the cardbase in my MISTI, with the circles still tacked in place, and laid out my stamps. I stamped both fairies and the sentiment onto the circles. The sentiment also partially stamped onto the card base. I lifted the circle and restamped only on the card base to ensure it would look complete and line up with the portion on the circle. I also added wands to each of the fairies’ hands. All the stamps come from Avery Elle’s Pixie Dust stamp set.

Next I coloured in my stamps. I used both Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and my Yosoo alcohol markers. I started with the skin tones, using similar combinations for both – the only difference is that the top fairy doesn’t use the darkest tone that I’d used on the bottom fairy. I went for different hair colours. I decided on blue and green for their dresses, then used the lightest shades (with lots of colourless blender!) to colour their wings to match. Finally I added a little yellow to the wand.

I considered a few other things, but due to time constraints decided to leave it there. I adhered the circles properly to the card base using my tape runner. Finally I added some sparkle to the fairies (because fairies need sparkle!) by putting clear Wink of Stella over the wings, dresses and wands.

I’m pretty pleased with this card. It’s sweet and simple, and was fairly easy to make. I’m very happy with my colouring too, and do enjoy seeing how I am improving at it!

I think that was a short enough post, right? If you were hoping for more from me though, don’t worry! I already have two posts planned for tomorrow, so be sure to check back to get your Joyful fix!

Love,

Lady Joyful
