The Male Room Challenge is back for the new year! And our challenge is just perfect for the season. We’re looking for cards that meet the theme of new beginnings. I went with the obvious and created a new year card, but there are lots of possible interpretations. How about a new baby card? Or a new home? A new job would work too, or even a milestone birthday – you could interpret it as entering a new era of life! You can find links below to see what the rest of the DT came up with.
I began with the Happy Meow Year digi stamp from The Paper Shelter which I printed onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I used both my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and my Yosoo alcohol markers to colour the image in. I decided to go with one black cat and one brown cat, and coloured with flicks to give the impression of texture to their fur. I then went with different blues for the accessories. I kept the main portion of the banner white but added some shading with my light greys.
Once I was happy with all the colouring I looked through my stash for some patterned papers to use with it. I felt the blue patterned paper paired well with the blues I’d used on my image, and the strip of star patterned paper added an extra festive touch for the new year. I used double-sided tape to adhere all my elements into place.
I do like this image, and have coloured it up a few times now. I try to vary it a bit each time, and this time I really worked on giving texture to the fur. It’s not perfect, but it gets the point across! Overall I’m happy with the card, and it enabled me to use a couple of snippets of patterned paper from my stash, which is always a good thing!
