It’s time for the first Cupcake Inspirations Challenge of the year. You may have already noticed something different – the challenge now goes live on Monday rather than Sunday. We are also now a fortnightly challenge so you will have more time to play along. As a result the DT members who have stayed on into the new year are now merged into one team. We also have a new look!
For our first challenge we have a winter theme, inspired by the beautiful pastel cupcakes in the below image. It’s the ideal theme for this time of year (at least in the Northern hemisphere!) You can go with a Christmas card if you like, or just a general winter card. Maybe a wintry birthday card? Our sponsor this challenge is Lawn Fawn, who are very generously providing a gift certificate of $25 to our lucky random winner. It’s definitely worth playing along for your chance to win!
I started by folding a card base from some white card. I am out of the card I usually used, so I tried a different one which is a bit lighter weight. It works, but I think it’s too flimsy for my liking… In any case, once it was folded I placed the Aspen Trees stencil from The Crafter’s Workshop (which I got as a Christmas present!) over the top of the card base, using some washi tape to hold it in place. I then ink blended over the stencil with some light blue pigment ink. Once I was happy with the blending I removed the stencil, and set the card base aside.
Next I stamped the yeti from Lawn Fawn’s Lovable Legends onto a snippet of white card. I used Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour in the yeti’s skin, then shaded his fur using my lightest greys which are Yosoo alcohol markers. After completing the colouring I fussy cut the yeti out and set him aside with my card base.
The next element to create was my snow bank, to give my yeti somewhere to stand. I took another snippet of white and die cut it with one of the smooth edged Scallop Wave Dies from *Pink and Main. I used double sided tape to adhere my snow bank to the card base and trimmed away the excess. I placed the card base into my MISTI and selectively stamped a sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Merry Messages using Simon Says Stamp Barely Beige ink.
Finally I used my tape runner to add adhesive to the back of the yeti and adhered him to the card base just above the sentiment.
I’m quite happy with this card. It really does have a wintry feel with the white and the icy blue. And I love how the Barely Beige ink makes the sentiment almost seem as though it has been written in the snow. The Lovable Legends stamp set is, if I recall correctly, the first Lawn Fawn set I got, and indeed one of the first stamp sets at all. It’s definitely one of my favourites, though it has been a while since I last played with it. I may have to play with it some more soon!
Love,
Lady Joyful
