I am so excited to be Guest Designing for CAS Colours and Sketches this month. I’ve enjoyed playing along with their challenges in the past. I’ve noticed though that I tend to participate in the sketch prompts more often than the colours. Generally speaking I do seem to enter sketch challenges more than colour ones. The first challenge of the month though is a colour challenge. We have two shades of pink and a green to play with.
I surprised myself a bit by coming up with an idea pretty quickly. And I surprised myself even more when, upon sitting down to make the card, I had a second idea and made that instead!
I started by using some green ink to create the stems and leaves of my flowers. I used all three of the different stem styles. For the middle one I used slightly less link to give the impression that it is further back than the other two flowers.
I then moved on to adding the flower heads. Again I used all three styles. I started by using my paler pink ink, then added the darker pink to the centres of each of the flowers. As with the stems, I kept my middle flower slightly paler to give the impression that it is behind the other two flowers.
Once I was happy with the stenciled flowers I moved on to my sentiment. I took a snippet of black card and white heat embossed a sentiment from the Creative Expressions John Lockwood Lily of The Valley stamp set. I trimmed the black panel down, then adhered it to my cardbase using some black foam squares.
I’m quite pleased with this card. As I said, colour challenges tend to be a bit more challenging to me than most other kinds of challenges, so I’m glad I was able to come up with more than one workable idea. I may well end up making my other idea later this week too!
