This week at the Watercooler Wednesday challenge Penny is hosting our feminine themed challenge. I have a pretty, summery card as my project for it. It’s been rather cold and snowy here lately, so I thought a touch of summer would be nice!
I started by printing Polkadoodles’ Winnie Starfish & Sandcastles – Sitting On The Dock digi stamp onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I then used both Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and Yosoo alcohol markers to colour her in. I did consider creating a background for the image but decided to leave it simple and instead added grounding by using a very light blue to colour the ripples and give the impression of water beneath the pier.
Once I was happy with my colouring I trimmed the panel down then started working on creating the rest of my card. I pulled out some snippets of patterned paper from one of the Simon Says Stamp card kits from last summer.
I chose a yellow card base and trimmed my larger piece of patterned paper to be just smaller than the card base then adhered that into place on the cardbase with double-sided tape. I then adhered the plainer patterned paper across the large piece, and topped it with my image panel.
I’m very pleased with this card. The colouring came out really well, and I think I did a particularly good job of getting the cast shadow from her hat, though I struggled with the shadow on the inside of the parasol a bit. The patterned papers work nicely with the colours on the image which is good considering I hadn’t picked them out until after I had coloured the image. Really it would be better to do that the other way around!
Love,
Lady Joyful

Wow I can see why you’d be pleased with this card Charlotte, it’s simply a stunner. I love that you’ve created this beautiful summery image to ward off the cold winter still upon so many of us. Your digi image is a ray of sunshine and beautiful coloured in every way. Your bits and pieces of background papers come together beautifully and create the perfect backdrop for this delightful girl! Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful feminine card!

Gorgeous card, Charlotte. Your colouring is absolutely stunning. It’s definitely something you’ve worked on and are now excelling at. The only issue I have is that you’re taunting me with this gorgeous summery image. I look outside and it’s been snowing for 12 hours with a couple of more days predicted. I’d rather have the summer! Beautiful work!
