10 Cards 1 Kit – Simon Says Stamp Card Kit January 2018

My New Year’s Resolution of getting my card kit videos done in the month that the kits are for has not started off well. A number of technical issues resulted in my YouTube channel taken a slight hiatus. I’m getting back to the videos now, but to avoid putting off the January Card Kit any longer I decided not to do a video for it.

Card 1 – Stripes and Sparkles

For my first card I started by applying stripes of double-sided tape across a card base created from red card that came in the kit. I used my craft mat to ensure I got the stripes straight. I then removed all the backing paper from the tape and covered them with the Vintage Platinum Glitter Dust. I burnished it in first with my fingers and then with my bone folder, and returned the excess glitter to the pot. It was pretty messy!

Next I took a snippet of white card stock, stamped a sentiment from the Really Like You stamp set with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I die cut the sentiment using a Lawn Fawn Stitched Oval die, then added some of the hearts from the stamp set with Altenew Ruby Red ink.

Challenge:

AAA Cards – All You Need Is Love

HLS Anything Goes With Dies – Use Dies

Power and Sparkle – Love to Sparkle

STAMPlorations Challenge – Paint It Red

The House That Stamps Built – Words as Focal Point

Card 2 – Valentine’s Panel

My second card is entirely patterned papers. I cut down a panel of the large floral patterned paper from the Pebbles Forever My Always paper pack. I took a snippet of another of the patterns and added the cutting across the floral panel. I chose one of the cut-apart images as my topper, but it didn’t look right directly on the patterned papers I’d chosen, so I added another pattern behind it as a mat, with the focal panel topped up on foam tape.

Challenge:

Craftyhazelnut’s Patterned Paper Challenge – Use Patterned Paper

Lil Patch of Crafty Friends – Anything Goes

Card 3 – Favourite Hearts

My third card is a more clean and simple design. I used the Neenah Desert Storm to create my card base, then stamped the hearts from Really Like You in a cluster in the middle of the card using the Pink Shimmer Delicata ink. I then stamped a sentiment with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink slightly overlapping some of the hearts.

The card looked a bit lacking still, so I added a subtle frame by scoring lines around the edge of the card base. As a final touch I added some dots of Bubblegum Blush Nuvo Drops (not from the kit).

Challenge:

CAS-ual Friday – Hearts

HLS CAS Challenge – Hearts

Card 4 – Snippet Stripes

The fourth card I made uses up a lot of snippets. The paper pack has a contrasting strip of paper at the top of each page, and they have a hole in the centre allowing the pad to be hung up. The hole can make these strips difficult to use because of course it needs to be hidden. I laid several of the strips together to create a patterned background, then added a wide strip of another pattern going perpendicular across them to hide the holes. I created a panel like I had on my first card with a Lawn Fawn Stitched Oval die to which I added a sentiment. Finally I added one of the Crate Paper Main Squeeze Puffy Stickers.

Challenge:

Pixies Snippets Playground – Use Snippets

Card 5 – Words of Love

Card number five again uses patterned papers. I topped a black card base with the text-based patterned paper, breaking it up with a strip of the large floral pattern. I then stamped a sentiment onto a snippet of white and die cut it with a Sizzix Framelits Heart Die. I added some interest to the heart by sponging some of the Pink Shimmer Delicata ink around the edges of the heart.

Challenge:

Dies R Us – Love

Mod Squad – Heart Focal Point

Uniko – Something Old, Something New and Optional: Love (The heart die is my ‘something old’, whilst any of the items from the kit could be the ‘something new’)

Card 6 – Love You Bunches

I decided to do some tone-on-tone stamping for my sixth card. I used the Pink Shimmer Delicata ink and stamped the XOXO stamp on a diagonal all across the card base. I then got stuck for a while trying to decide what to do… In the end I took another snippet of patterned paper to go across the cardbase, and topped it with an oval die cut from the small flower patterned paper. I stamped a sentiment on top of it, then stamped and cut some additional sentiment pieces to go with it. I thought “love you bunches” fit well with the flowers.

Challenge:

Moving Along With The Times – Love

Card 7 – Ombre Like You

One of the patterned papers was this really pretty ombre paper with scripty words all across it. I decided to use that as the focus for card number seven. I adhered it to a card base then stamped a sentiment onto it. I used my white gel pen along the left edges of the letters on the sentiment to give an almost layered look to them. I then added three hearts from the puffy stickers as embellishment to the card.

Challenge:

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday – Love

Card 8 – Shimmer Hearts

Card number 8 is probably my least favourite. I like the idea but it didn’t work quite as well as I would have preferred. It does look better in real life than in the pictures, though! I used the Pink Shimmer Delicata ink and stamped the hearts across the card. I started at the bottom with the largest hearts, some pointing down and others up. I moved on to smaller hearts going up the card, though I did fill in some spaces down the bottom with the smaller hearts. I also added a sentiment at the top of the card.

Challenge:

Sweet Stampin’ – Girly

Card 9 – Hello Love

I returned to the patterned papers for card number nine. I cut a panel of the xoxo patterned paper and topped it with a snippet of tartan patterned paper. I then added one of the cut aparts popped up with foam tape, and finished it off with a puffy heart.

Challenge:

Simon Says Stamp Work It Wednesday – Love

Card 10 – Trio of Love

My final card also uses patterned paper, with no stamping. I covered the card base with the dotted patterned paper and added a wide strip of the large floral patterned paper across it. I then topped it with three cut aparts popped up with foam tape.

Challenge:

Simon Says Stamp Monday – Love Is In The Air

……….

I definitely enjoyed playing with this kit, though I found that I lost steam a bit towards the end and definitely began to struggle for ideas. The first card is definitely my favourite of the set, though I really like number five too. Which card do you like most?

Love,

Lady Joyful
