This week’s The Male Room challenge is a topical one. Our prompt is Winter Olympics, or sports more generally. I went with the more general sports theme for my card, with martial arts as the sport of choice.
I started by printing the Physical and Spiritual Strength digi from The Paper Shelter onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I then coloured him up using both Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and Yosoo alcohol markers.
Once the colouring was completed I fussy cut my image. I fussy cut fairly often, and I generally prefer to cut right up to the lines of the image, which is what I did in this case. I then set the image aside to work on my background.
I cut a panel of white cardstock to be just smaller than my card base. I then stamped the effect bubble (for lack of a better term) from an “OhDeerMe” stamp set which is an older set I received as a prize recently, and I cannot find a link or name for it anywhere… In any case, I stamped that onto my white panel, then used washi tape to mask off a segment at a time and ink blended Spiced Marmalade Distress ink coming from the spikes of the bubble. I then stamped a sentiment into the centre of the bubble.
Finally I used double-sided tape along with my tape runner to adhere my fussy cut image to the panel, then adhered it to my orange card base.
I’m really happy with this card! I wasn’t sure initially how the ink blending would turn out but I think it worked beautifully, despite a couple of smudges here and there. The effect is just perfect to go with the image I used. It may not be winter olympics related, but it certainly meets the sports requirement! And as I’m not really into sport, it was about the closest stamp I had available to use!
Love,
Lady Joyful

I think this is super and certainly meets the challenge theme. I do like the way you’ve blended the ink to create rays around the bubble word! Great work. So sorry to be so late commenting on this one! Deborah, xx
