White Owl – CIC 440 Reminder

I decided to challenge myself to make another card for our all white challenge over at Cupcake Inspirations. Have you played along yet? White-on-white is definitely a tricky one, at least for me. I actually was starting on a different card when I ended up putting this one together. It’s a bit of a different approach than the card I first made for the prompt.

For this card I started by embossing a piece of white card with the Taylored Expressions Woodgrain Embossing Folder, then die cut a circle from the centre using a Sizzix Circle Framelit.

Using my embossed panel as a guide I lined up my stamps, which are both from Paper Smooches’ Chubby Chums stamp set, in my MISTI and stamped them with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink. I coloured the owl primarily with Yosoo alcohol markers as they are the lightest greys I have. I also bought in just a hint of blue to the eyes and yellow to the beak and feet, which were Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers.

I felt like the owl needed some grounding, so I took a snippet of vellum and die cut a twig from the Sizzix Spring Greenery Sizzlits. I used another snippet of vellum to create a banner, white heat embossing on it with a retired Clearly Besotted banner sentiment.

I used double sided tape to adhere my embossed panel into place on my card base, catching the vellum branch under it in the process to adhere that in place. For the banner I used some small dots of Glossy Accents hidden behind the embossed areas and pressed it into place.

I’m quite happy with this card. It was fun to make. I do feel like my attempts at white-on-white tend to end up looking a bit washed out… But I enjoyed it, and it looks alright, so it’ll do!

  1. Yes, white on white can be tricky, but your cute owl and the two different types of embossing make all the difference. I love how you accomplished your goal and still kept it simple. Another cutie for our Double D challenge. Thanks!
