WWC159 – Marsha’s “All About Christmas” Challenge

We’re thinking of Christmas over at the Watercooler Wednesday challenge this week. I decided to do some masking and watercolouring to create my clean and simple card.

I started by playing around with my stamps to work out what I wanted my little scene to look like, then created the masks that I would need. I stamped the hat, from Lawn Fawn‘s Hats Off To You, and the Fox, from The Greeting Farm‘s Cuddly Thanks, onto some post-its and fussy cut them out.

With the masks ready I put my watercolour paper panel into my MISTI and started on the stamping. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink which is waterproof. First I stamped the hat, then masked it off. I then stamped the fox and added the mask over him too. Finally I stamped the little tree stump that the fox is sleeping on, which is also from the Cuddly Thanks stamp set.

I removed the masks and started on my watercolouring. I used my MozArt watercolour markers and a waterbrush to blend out. I started with a red on the hat, then used a light brown for the body of the fox. I had originally planned on combining brown and orange for the fox’s body, but when blended out the brown had enough orange to it that I decided to leave it as it was. I used a darker brown for the tree stump. I then used the grey brush pen to add shading to all the white areas including below my little scene as just a hint of grounding. Finally I added a tiny bit of pink to the fox’s nose.

I trimmed the panel down and added a sentiment from Lawn Fawn’s Merry Messages to the opposite corner from my little scene. I then mounted the panel on a dark red card base.

I’m quite happy with this card. The little hat works perfectly on the fix despite the stamps not being designed to go together. I did have some trouble with the watercolour bleeding beyond the lines a bit but I was able to disguise that by colouring over the areas with a white pencil.

Love,

Lady Joyful
