The latest challenge at Cupcake Inspirations is a fun colour challenge. Our colours are blue, pink and white, and I used an image from our sponsor, The Paper Shelter who are offering three digis to our randomly chosen winner, to create this cute scene card.

I started by printing my image, The Most Adorable Jellyfishes, onto some alcohol marker friendly paper, then coloured it in using Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and Yosoo alcohol markers. I made sure to only use blue, pink, and some grey to shade the white areas. In order to have each of the three colours represented on my characters I gave the little jellyfish white tentacles, and left the fish white with pink or blue accents.
When I’d finished the colouring I started working on the other elements of the card. I decided to tuck the coloured image behind a panel I had leftover from another project. I’d die cut an image using a Lawn Fawn Stitched Oval die, leaving me with a panel I could use as a frame.
For some added interest I cut a panel of vellum to go behind the frame. I then used a piece of scratch paper die cut in a wave shape using Pink and Main’s Scalloped Wave Dies and ink blended Altenew Ocean Waves dye ink across the vellum using the wave mask to create an ocean look.
I adhered the vellum go the back of my frame panel, then adhered it to my image panel. I trimmed the resulting panel down to be slightly smaller than my card base. I chose a pink card base to help pull out the pink in my image.
The final touches for my card were adding the sentiment, from Lawn Fawn’s Mermaid For You, which I stamped with Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide. I finished the card with a few Nuvo Jewel Drops in Sea Breeze.
I had a lot of fun making this card. The image is really sweet and was enjoyable to colour, even with the added challenge of the limited colour palette. My favourite part was definitely creating the vellum panel. I wasn’t sure exactly how it would end up, but it worked really nicely and is a lovely effect.
Love,
Lady Joyful
