This week at Watercooler Wednesdays we are looking for Christmas cards. I wasn’t sure what to make for my DT project, but eventually decided on some simple watercolouring with a reindeer stamp.
I started by stamping the reindeer, from the Docrafts Create Christmas Reindeer stamp set, onto some watercolour paper then clear heat embossing it.
I added water within the lines of the reindeer image, them started to paint it using my Gansai Tambi paints. I used gold for the antlers, then a rich brown for the body of the deer. I tried to keep fairly loose with my colours with lots of water and allowing the gold and brown to bleed onto eachother and blend together.
I allowed the reindeer to dry before moving on to my background. Here I used very light washes of blue and green to give the impression of a scene. Once I was happy with the colour I let it dry.
For the sentiment I used a stamp from Lawn Fawn’s Merry Messages, which I stamped and heat embossed in gold.
I wanted to further tie in the gold so I added gold washi tape all around the edge of my card base. I trimmed my watercolour panel to be just smaller than the card base and adhered it into place popped up on foam tape.
I can’t decide if I like this card or not. Sometimes I do, and other times I don’t. The background did not turn out how I had planned – there are some harsh lines from pooling which I would have rather hadn’t happened. But I do like the way the deer itself turned out.
Love,
Lady Joyful

Great choice of stamp for your Christmas Occasions card Charlotte. I love how you’ve blended the golds and browns on the deers body. Great mix. Your beautiful sky/ground background really works for me too. Thanks for sharing.

What a beautiful card, Charlotte. Your watercolouring brings it to life! The golds and browns of the leaping deer blend so well while the shading gives it a real 3-D effect. I love the background wash of colour. Those lines give the appearance of movement, making me feel that the deer is displacing the frigid air and blowing snow. A stunning card—well done!
