Birthday Racer – TMR 85

Time for a new challenge at The Male Room, and this time around we’re looking for cars. You could go vintage with a classic car, but I chose to make a fun birthday card for a little boy who loves cars.

First I printed out the image, which is My Racing Car from The Paper Shelter, onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers and Yosoo alcohol markers to colour the image in. Whilst I think it’s important to match colouring to patterned papers when using them, on this occasion I didn’t have a particular paper in mind so I just coloured the image with the colours I felt like using.

I then looked through my patterned papers to see if there was something I wanted to use. I found a cut apart piece from a Crelando Party Patterned Paper pack which was just the right size. The colours were a good fit too. I trimmed it out and matted it onto some blue mirror card, then fussy cut my image and adhered it to the panel.

Using my panel as a guide I lined up a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp’s Magical Birthday stamp set and stamped it with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I then adhered my focal panel into place.

I’m very happy with this card. It ended up really sweet and just perfect for a car-mad little boy. Conveniently enough, both my little Things that I nanny are about to turn three (,one this week, the other next week) and given that they are both into card I may well be giving this out quite soon!
