It’s my turn to host the challenge at Watercooler Wednesday this week, and we’re all about occasions! I wanted to make a new baby card but I couldn’t decide whether to stamp or stencil, make a one layer card or dimensional… So I decided to revive my ‘same but different’ series on my YouTube channel and made two cards!
I started with the layered card with a stamped background. I cut a panel of white card and used a stamp from Simon Says Stamp‘s Choose Joy To stamp a checkered background. I used Altenew‘s Rose Quartz and Soft Lilac to do my stamping, and created a soft gradient.
Once I’d completed the stamping I trimmed the panel down and edged it with Lavender Fields which is a shade darker than the purple I’d stamped with. I used that same darker purple to add my sentiment from Reverse Confetti‘s Cute As A Button.
I set my stamped panel aside and stamped an elephant from Heffy Doodle‘s Elephant of Surprise onto a snippet of white. I coloured it with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers and fussy cut it out. I then adhered my background panel to my card base and added the elephant popped up on foam squares.
I then moved onto my second card. I used the first as a guide for placing my elephant, then stamped and masked it. I also masked off the outer edges of my card, then laid the Plaid Maker stencil from STAMPlorations over the top. I ink blended over the stencil with Spun Sugar and Milled Lavender Distress inks. I also added my sentiment using the same Altenew ink as I’d used for the first card. I then removed the masking and coloured my elephant in the same way as I’d coloured the first, which completed my card.
Both these cards turned out so pretty. It was great that I was able to get two from the process because I needed to send one out immediately, so having a second meant I had one to keep for my stash. I can’t decide which card I like best. I prefer the one layer look to the dimensional one I think, but I also prefer the stamped background to the stencilled one. I’d love to know which you like most!
Love,
Lady Joyful
