10 Cards 1 Kit – Simon Says Stamp Card Kit April 2018 (With Video)

I’m still playing catch up with card kits! I have the April card kit from Simon Says Stamp to share with you today. I know lots of people have already provided inspiration for this kit, but if you’ve yet to dig into yours perhaps you’ll find this useful!

Card 1 – Yellow Butterflies

I used some temporary adhesive to attach the butterfly stencil to a panel of white card. I then ink blended through it with the Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide. I added a touch of Spiced Marmalade Distress ink to the centre of the butterflies for added dimension.

Removing the stencil I stamped a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Beautiful Day in the same Squeezed Lemonade ink. I added some grey pencil shading around the left side of all the butterflies to help them pop more.

I cut a mat from a piece of rainbow patterned paper, adhered it to my yellow card base, then attached the stenciled panel over the top. I finished off with some Nuvo Drops in Limoncello.

Card 2 – Framed Adoration

I used two Lawn Fawn Stitched Oval dies to cut a frame from the green patterned paper. I then worked out where the frame would be on my card base, and lightly ink blended some Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide into that area, before stamping a sentiment over the ink blended area.

I stamped, coloured and fussy cut the long leaf branch along with a butterfly. I adhered my frame to the card base with foam tape, then attached the fussy cut elements to the frame. Finally I added Tonic shimmer pen to the leaves and butterfly.

TCP Tuesday – Die Cutting

Card 3 – Twined Vines

For my third card I took the rectangle of patterned paper I’d cut from the centre of the mat in the last card. I die cut three squares from one side, then set the panel aside. I coloured and fussy cut some leafy branches and a butterfly, to which I added shimmer with the Tonic pen. I then weaved the branches through the openings on my panel, and adhered the panel to the card base on foam tape, with the cut away squares pieced back into place directly on the card base. I added my butterfly with a double layer of foam under the wings, and stamped a sentiment beside it.

Card 4 – Foiled Thinking of You

I masked off two strips on my yellow card base and ink blended Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide over them, giving a cooler shade of yellow. I then used my glue pen to add lines of glue either side of the blended strips. I let it dry until tacky, then added the silver foil. The glue had smudged in places, giving a distressed look. I added a sentiment and a fussy cut butterfly to finish the card.

Card 5 – Best In Pink

For my fifth card I started by applying double sided tape to the edges of a piece of patterned paper, then applied foil to the tape. I then added the patterned paper to a card base, popped up on foam tape. I stamped a sentiment following the angle of the paper, and finished with a fussy cut butterfly.

Card 6 – Beautiful Blue

I decided to focus on foiling for my sixth card. I used a wide strip of double sided tape along one side of the card and added the foil to it. I then edged it with a clear glitter peel off (from another kit) to give a more finished look. I stamped a sentiment beside the foiling, and finished off with some Nuvo Drops in Sea Breeze.

Card 7 – Beautifully The Best

I started by using a Sizzix circle die to cut a circle of white card and stamped a sentiment into the centre. I then added leaves all around the edge of the circle using both of the Distress Oxides. I did third generation stamping for a softer look. Once I was happy with the leaves I blended some Squeezed Lemonade around the edges of the circle. I then trimmed down a piece of patterned paper to be my base panel, and popped the circle up onto it along with a banner with a secondary sentiment.

Card 8 – Rainbow Day

My eighth card again uses a patterned paper as a base panel. This time I cut it to have more of a reveal of the card base. I stamped a sentiment from the stamp set onto it using the Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide. I then stamped and fussy cut three butterflies which I’d coloured somewhat with a rainbow in mind. I adhered them to the card base, completing the card.

Card 9 – Like I Can Fly

I went back to the stencil for my ninth card. I stencilled butterflies onto a piece of yellow patterned paper using both of the Distress Oxide inks. I then added a sentiment stamped with the Mermaid Lagoon. I adhered a second panel of patterned paper to my card base, and then glued my blended panel over the top of it. Finally I added some Nuvo Drops.

Card 10 – Layered Snippets

For my final card I looked for a way to use up my snippets. I stamped a sentiment and butterfly into the oval leftover from a previous card, using Forest Glades ink, then layered it over various pieces of other patterned papers that I’d had left over. I finished up with some Nuvo Drops.

……….

I really love the stamp set that came in this kit, and had fun playing around with it. The patterned papers are lovely too. I did find the stencil a bit of a struggle and am not particularly happy with the cards that used it. I also had some problems with the foil, but that may partly be to do with never having used it before! I think my favourite cards from this are 2, 3 and 8. I’d love to hear which you liked best!

Love,

Lady Joyful

  10. Wow, I’m loving all the butterflies on these cards. The one you have made for the butterfly challenge though is my favourite as it is pink and I adore pink. The idea of using ds tape on the edge of the design paper to stick the foiling on is such a good idea. I’m going to have to try that out I think. Thankyou for coming and spinning the celebration butterfly wheel with me this week. Hugs Mrs A.
