10 Cards 1 Kit – Simon Says Stamp Card Kit May 2018 (With Video)

Look at me getting caught up with my card kits! It’s still May and I got the May Simon Says Stamp card kit finished and ready to share with you all. I’ll be honest, I thought I’d struggle with ideas for this kit but actually I ended up having a lot of fun with it, especially the large stamp set!

Card 1 – Simply The Best

My first card was inspired by a technique I saw on the MFT YouTube channel. I used both the inks from the kit, Melon and Spring Rain, and also bought in Wisteria and Hollyhock from the March kit. (The four inks are available to buy as a set, called Spring Flowers.) I assessed where my sentiment would be stamped, then started stamping flowers and leaves. All the stamps were from the Everything Together stamp set. I used regular stamping for most of the panel, then used second generation stamping for the flowers that would be in the area of the sentiment. I finished up the panel by filling out the design with the small dot stamps from the stamp set. Finally I stamped my sentiment with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink [MFT | SSS].

Card 2 – Everything Together

I again focused on the stamp set to create another one layer card for card number two. I used just the inks from the kit this time, and stamped a pattern using the border stamps. Once the pattern was completed I added my sentiment over the top. Finally I embellished with three of the Pink Fresh Studio epoxy hearts.

Card 3 – Miss You Wreath

I was still on roll with the stamps and inks for card three. I bought in my Gina K Wreath Builder [CDC | SSS), trimmed down one of the grey card bases to 4 inches square, and created a simple wreath. I added a sentiment to the centre of the wreath, finishing the card.

Challenge:

AAA Cards – Inspired By Nature

HLS CAS Challenge – One Layer

Less Is More – Colour Challenge: Yellow, Blue, Grey (my blue is kind of blue green… hopefully that’s okay!)

Stamping Sensations – Close to Nature

Card 4 – Turnabout Flowers

I had every intention of moving on from the large stamp set for my fourth card, but then I got a comment from someone telling me how much they’d enjoyed my faux turnabout stamping technique that I’d shown on my YouTube channel, and it’s such a fun technique I decided I had to try it with this stamp set.

I used the same stamps and colours as I had on my first card, merely changing up the technique. I then die cut some vellum using a Sizzix heart framelit and topped it with a die cut sentiment. I used the heart word dies from the kit, cutting the shadow layer with a snippet of white coloured with the Spring Rain ink, and the other layer from a snippet of black which I embellished with my Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen. I heat embossed the rest of my sentiment, from Everything Together, onto the vellum, added my die cut sentiment and some heart stickers (both epoxy and puffy) to it, then popped it onto my card base using foam tape which I hid behind all the elements that were on the vellum.

Fabrika Fantasy – Flowers

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday – More Than One Stamp

TCP Tuesday – Diecutting

Card 5 – Floral Teacup

I finally moved on from the large stamp set for my fifth card, instead using the Take Heart stamp set. I stamped the teacup full of flower onto a panel of watercolour paper and pulled out my Gansai Tambi watercolours to paint it with. I chose two colours of paint that very closely matched the inks from the kit and used those to do my painting. After painting I added a little extra detail with some coloured pencils, then stamped on my sentiment.

I trimmed the watercolour panel down and matted it on a piece of the Pinkfresh Studio Let Your Heart Decide patterned paper, which I gutted away the centre of to be able to use in future. I adhered the gutted patterned paper panel to my orange card base and topped it with the painted panel, completing the card.

The Paper Players – CAS and Blooms

Card 6 – Hummingbird Love

My sixth card has no stamping at all. I picked out one of the patterned papers and used it to create the main panel for my card base. I added a snippet of the patterned paper I’d used on my previous card to help break up the large panel, edging it with glitter peel offs (leftover from the April Love From Lizi card kit) for a bit of added interest. I created a little scene using some of the puffy stickers, and added a puffy sticker sentiment too. I decided to colour the edge of the card base with my Tonic Shimmer Pen to help further tie in the glitter of the peel offs, and finally adhered the whole card together.

Card 7 – Let’s Catch Up

Card seven also really focused on a patterned paper. I cut it to fit my card base, and used my Black Licorice ink to add a sentiment and a line of stitching, both from the Everything Together stamp set. Finally I embellished with three epoxy hearts.

Challenge:

Moving Along With The Times – Black & White + One Colour

Card 8 – Kind Heart

More patterned paper for card number eight. I thought it would be fun to stamp within the lines of the pattern, and the stamps from Take Heart fit really well. I first stamped my main heart word using my black Licorice ink, then added the partial words either side using Barely Beige from Simon Says Stamp. I added the rest of my sentiment in the line above, then played around with adding heart stickers until I was happy with the layout.

Card 9 – Most Awesome Person

I went really clean and simple for my ninth card. I used the Spring Rain ink to stamp the award sentiment onto a snippet of white, then fussy cut it out and arranged it onto the lower right hand corner of one of the grey card bases with some of the puffy stickers.

Challenge:

The House That Stamps Built – Anything Goes

Card 10 – Amazing Shelf

Usually my tenth card uses up snippets. I didn’t have a lot in the way of interesting snippets this time as I had only really used large panels of paper. I did have a couple of very narrow offcut strips though, and I decided to use those. I started by using the panel of patterned paper I’d gutted from a previous card as my base panel. I then adhered a very narrow yellow strip to a slightly wider grey strip, and popped them up across the panel with foam tape. I arranged a variety of stickers, also on foam tape, along the strip as if it was a shelf. I added a puffy sticker sentiment and two puffy hearts directly to the patterned paper panel, then popped the panel onto the card base with more foam tape, for even more dimension.

Pink & Main – Anything Goes

……….

As I said at the beginning of the post, I had my doubts about this kit. I’d actually thought about skipping this one and just ordering the bits of it I was most interested in, but realised it still worked out more cost efficient to get the whole lot, so I did. And I’m glad I did. I had so much fun with the kit and there isn’t a single card Ii dislike. (Though there may be one or two that I feel could be improved upon.) I’d love to hear which card you liked best, and perhaps what sort of cards you’d be interested in seeing more of in future videos.

Love,

Lady Joyful
