Run On Coffee

I have a second card to share for the Spring & Summer Coffee Loving Cardmakers blog hop. You can find my first card here if you’ve missed it. Like my first card, this one uses one of the freebies offered along the hop. This one comes from Limited Runs Digital Stamps.

I went really clean and simple with this card. I wanted something quick to make as things are a bit hectic at the moment, so I just printed the image and accompanying sentiment out to a size that would nicely fill my card front. I then coloured it in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator Markers.

I started by colouring the coffee itself with some dark brown markers. I’ll be honest I was a bit unsure of how to do the shading for the liquid so I just kind of went with what I felt looked okay. I think it worked well enough! Once that was done I moved on to colouring the cup itself. I went for some turquoise colours and did my best to give a look of roundness with my shading. I used yellow for the trim elements of the cup, as it is a good contrasting colour to go with the blue tones of the rest of the cup.

After some consideration I decided to go with a skin tone for the face on the cup, and used the same colour combination on the feet. The final part to colour was a touch of cast shadow. I’m not great at adding shadows but I like how they ground the image. I just put some very light grey as a shadow from the feet.

As a final touch I added some shimmer and sparkle to the coffee cup using the Tonic Aqua Shimmer Pen.

This card definitely achieved it’s aim – quick to put together, and not too difficult either. The colouring was nice and relaxing without being overly complicated. I would’ve liked to be able to do more with it though. I really like the idea of having a ground made of coffee beans. I think that would work really well with the sentiment. I don’t have a coffee bean background stamp though, and trying to draw it would have definitely undermined my attempts at making a quick card!

Love,

Lady Joyful
