As a nanny to three young boys the latest challenge at The Male Room is definitely one I can appreciate! We are looking for masculine projects with a little boys theme. That can be for a little boy, featuring a little boy, or both.
I started by printing The Cutest Wizard from The Paper Shelter onto some alcohol marker friendly paper. I then coloured the image in using my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers. I went with blue and yellow for the wizard’s outfit, and bought the yellow in on the staff too. I coloured the frog green, then went with various browns for the rest of the image. I also added some grounding shadows beneath them with a light grey which I blended out with my colourless blender.
Having completed the colouring I added my sentiment, which comes from Avery Elle’s Be A Unicorn stamp set. I did not get as crisp an impression as I would have liked but that was my fault – the stamp was not sticking to my MISTI well so I washed it to get the stickiness back, but then I was too impatient and did not wait as long as I should have for it to dry. After stamping the sentiment I took one of the blues I had used for my colouring and filled in the open areas of the sentiment. I then trimmed my focal panel down and rounded the corners.
I then moved on to my card base. I decided to use a coloured card base and went with a yellow one to tie in with my image. I wanted to add some extra interest to it so I stamped on it with Uniko’s Background Blocks Party Confetti stamp. At first I used Squeezed Lemonade Distress Oxide because I wanted a tone on tone look, but I felt it was too subtle so I switched to Spiced Marmalade Distress ink. I also inked up the edges of my focal panel with the spiced marmalade ink before adding it to my card base popped up on foam tape.
This card is not quite as CAS as I usually go for, but I’m happy with it nonetheless. The confetti background really goes well with the swirls of magic in the wizard image. I am pleased with the colouring on the card, and I think the only thing I’m not happy with on the card is the sentiment. I guess that ought to teach me to be more patient!
