Kraken Pirate Ship – TMR 88

The latest project at The Male Room is a fun one. We’re looking for projects that have been inspired by a film title. The card I’m sharing for my project is actually one I made with a kit I got last summer. It reminded me so much of Pirates of the Caribbean (or really you could pick any pirate film!) that I knew I had to share it for this challenge.

This was a fairly simple and straightforward card to put together. There was no stamping or colouring involved, just some cutting and assembly.

I started by cutting down the fun wave patterned paper from Scrapberry’s The Pirate’s Treasure paper pack, making sure to keep the kraken and its treasure chest intact. I adhered them to my card base, then trimmed myself a banner of another patterned paper that I felt coordinated well.

Before adhering the banner into place I added a square of vellum to go behind the sticker that would act as my focal image. This allowed me to have the vellum go partially under the banner, giving me a place to hide the adhesive. I also hid more adhesive behind the pirate ship sticker, from the Pirates sticker set by Express Yourself MIP, which I added on top of the vellum.

I’m pretty pleased with this card, as simple cards go. It’s one of those ones that you don’t necessarily need to put a lot of thought into – just cut it down and stick it together. I do usually prefer to have some stamping or die cutting on my cards, but sometimes you just want to make a card that almost makes itself!

  1. What a cool pirate ship all glittered up with the blue kraken hiding the treasure in the deeps. I love reading kraken stories! I’m glad you joined us this week at Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge to share your wonderful make! hugs, Maura
