Today is the start of a new challenge over at Watercooler Wednesday. This time around we are looking for masculine cards. These can be anything from birthday or congratulations cards to ‘just because’ cards like the one I have made. So long as it’s something that you would give to a boy or man, it is suitable for our challenge!
I started my card by stamping and masking my little scene, using stamps from The Greeting Farm’s Kitty Stacks and MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink. I first stamped the cat as that is the front most element, then masked it off and added the rug in behind. The “zzz” didn’t require any masking.
After removing my masks I coloured my image in with coloured pencils. I decided to colour the cat black, going with my darkest shades on the edges and moving in to slightly lighter at the centre. I then used red and green to colour the rug.
I’d intentionally created my panel to be the same length as my card base but slightly narrower. I chose to use a green card base. After laying the panel against the card base I felt that it needed something to separate the two layers. I found some washi tape in my stash that had red and green stripes, and seemed ideal. It’s actually a Christmas washi but worked well for what I needed. I used the washi to edge my stamped panel before adhering it to my coloured card base.
I’m really pleased with this card. I don’t use my coloured pencils often, but despite that I feel that the colouring turned out well. The red and green tones work nicely to give the card a masculine feel. I know some people do not like cute imagery for masculine cards, but men like cute things too! Perhaps not all of them, but both my husband and my best friend do, and I know either of them would be happy to receive a card with a cute little kitty like this!
