We have a fun new challenge starting today at The Male Room. We’re looking for you to include fish or fishing on your masculine themed projects. I went for a clean and simple, almost one layer design for my fish themed card.
I started with the stylised wave stamp from Simon Says Stamp’s Sea You Soon and positioned it on the centre of my American A2 sized white card base. With the help of my MISTI I double-stamped with Altenew Dusk ink. I then shifted the card 1 1/2 inches to stamp the waves above and below the original wave.
Originally I’d been planning to just have the three waves, but I felt there was perhaps too much space between them. With my stamp still in the MISTI I shifted the card to be 3/4 inch above (and then below) the original stamping, then stamped with Altenew Ocean Waves ink. This way I had a lighter blue wave between the middle and top as well as the middle and bottom dark blue waves.
Next I created my fish, from Simon Says Stamp’s Under The Sea Animals stamp set. I used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid ink to stamp onto a snippet of white card and coloured it in green with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers before fussy cutting it out. I went over the stripes with my white gel pen to finish it off.
I adhered the fish to the card base with Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue, then stamped a sentiment from the same stamp set using the MFT ink. As a final touch I added some Nuvo Jewel Drops in Sea Breeze.
I’m really happy with this card. I love the design and I think it makes a fun masculine card. The fish colour could easily be changed to the recipient’s favourite. It could also easily be made one layer by stamping the fish first then masking off to add the waves.
Love,
Lady Joyful
