Craftin Desert Divas July 2018 Digital Release

It’s time for the July digital release at Craftin Desert Divas, and it’s a sweet one! We have lots of cute critters turned into ice lollies, as well as a couple in iced coffee cups. They are too cute! I’ve played with two of the new release images today – Popsicle Bunny and Popsicle Panda. Be sure to check out what the rest of the team made, including examples for the other stamps in the release.

Card 1 – Hoppy Chillin’

I printed two of the Bunny Popsicles for my first card along with a sentiment I’d created using the fonts Segoe UI Light and Trajan Pro. I then used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour them in. I decided to do one bunny white, so I just added some grey to create shading and used my blender pen to blend out to white. I added pink to the cheeks and inner ears.

For the second bunny I went with chocolate brown tones. I used my lightest browns for the cheeks and inner ears, and left the tummy white. In hindsight I think I should have used creams on the white bunny to give the look of vanilla ice cream. Finally I used some different brown tones to colour the sticks. Once I’d finished colouring I fussy cut the images out and set them aside.

For my background I used a panel of pink smooshed paper that I’d previously created. It uses Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide (leftover from an ink blending project) which I sprayed with water and picked up on my watercolour paper.

In order to help tie in the sentiment strip with the rest of the card I edged the top and bottom with pink by running an ink pad along my paper. As this gives a stronger colouration than ink smooshing I used a paler pink, choosing my Spun Sugar Distress ink.

I used strong double-sided tape to adhere my panel to my card base. I then played around to see how I wanted my layout to be. Once I was happy I adhered the overlapping portions of the bunnies together with my Zig Glue pen, then attached them behind the sentiment strip. Finally I used foam tape to pop it all up on my card base.

Card 2 – Sweet Bear

I decided to go for a very different look on my second card. I gain started by printing my image, Panda Popsicle, and sentiment created using Nueva Std font. I coloured the panda with greys and a touch of pink. I used the same browns for the stick as I’d used with the bunnies.

For my background I cut a panel of black card to slightly smaller than my card base. I ink blended white pigment ink in the centre area, then added Perfect Pearls powder in Pearl all over the top. The powder clings to the pigment ink given a pretty shimmer. I misted it to set the powder.

I trimmed my sentiment down adding an angle on one end of each strip, then adhered them to the black panel. I added the panel to my card base, then used foam tape to adhere the panda in place.

I had so much fun working with these adorable images and hope you do too. It’s such a cute release. Be sure to head over to the Craftin Desert Divas blog to see the inspiration from the rest of the team. You don’t want to miss it! And you can find all the new release digis here.

Love,

Lady Joyful
