We’re a week into our current Cupcake Inspiration Challenge. Normally that would mean the challenge is halfway through, but this challenge will run for a bit longer than usual, so there’s still plenty of time to play for your chance to win a Digi from our sponsor, Kitty Bee Designs. All you have to do is link up a project featuring the colours black, yellow and white.
As with the first card I made for this challenge (which you can find here) I started by printing out a Digi stamp from our sponsor. This time around I used Flower Bumble Bee. I coloured it in with my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers, being sure to stick to the challenge colours. I did also bring in a hint of very light blue to add shading to the wings. After completing my colouring I used a Sizzix circle die to cut the image out.
I then worked on my background. I used the Mod Flowers stamp from Simon Says Stamp and stamped it directly onto my card base using Catherine Pooler’s Limoncello ink. I used the same ink around the edges of my die cut circle to help it stand out from the background.
For my sentiment I used a Happy Birthday die and cut it once from a white snippet and once from a black snippet. I pressed the white one into the Limoncello ink, then layered the two die cuts together, slightly off set from one another, before adhering it to the card base next to the image panel which I popped up on foam tape.
As a final touch I added some shimmer to the bee, flower and sentiment using my Nuvo Aqua Shimmer Pen.
This card turned out really sweet. I love the adorable image and it goes perfectly with the background stamp. I really like the brightness of the yellow, too. This was my first time using Catherine Pooler ink for stamping and it worked really beautifully. I do hope I’ll be able to get my hands on some more in future!
