Our new challenge at Incy Wincy Designs is a tic-tac-toe challenge! There are lots of different options to chose from, and we hope you’ll have fun with it. We’re sponsored this time around by Fabrika Fantasy who are offering three digis to our lucky winner – make sure you link up to be eligible for the prize.
I began by printing out the Cute Zebra 01 Digi stamp from our sponsor Fabrika Fantasy onto alcohol marker friendly paper. I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour the image in. I of course used greys to colour my black and white zebra. I went with blues for the paddling pool and yellow for the duck. After colouring I added stripes to the pool with my white gel pen. I then fussy cut the image out and set it to one side.
I wanted to try splash watercolouring again for my background. The last time I did it the result was pretty but I wasn’t entirely happy with the process. This time I used Mermaid Lagoon Distress Oxide. I pressed some onto my craft mat, and spritzed it with water into which I’d mixed a little Perfect Pearls. I then pounced my watercolour paper into it. I did several layers of pouncing, using my heat gun to dry in between, until I was happy with how it looked.
Whilst the panel finished drying I created my sentiment. I coated a snippet of white card with the same Mermaid Lagoon ink, spritzed it with water, and lifted the water with a paper towel. I then used a die from Sizzix’s Friendship Expressions die set to cut out my sentiment, after backing the paper with double-sided tape.
I used Tombow Mono Multi liquid glue to adhere my fussy cut image to the watercolour panel, then adhered the whole thing flush to a blue card base with double-sided tape.
I’m really pleased with how this card come together. The splash watercolour isn’t quite how I’d pictured it being, but that’s the fun of the technique. It’s very loose and unpredictable. Even if it didn’t end up splashing quite in the way I’d hoped it worked well to accompany my image. I do wonder if I should have gone with a colour other than blue for the paddling pool – perhaps red or yellow for a pop of extra colour.
Love,
Lady Joyful

WOW! A great CAS card, maintained in a large CAS discipline. I love sweet zebra. The biggest impression on me was made by the pool coloring technique in which a small zebra sits.
