I love to find ways to stretch my supplies. Whether it’s using tree dies to make a bird, or sentiment stamps for colouring, it’s fun to work out alternative uses for things. For this card I thought I would use my Mermaid Scale stencil to create some abstract waves.
I started by adding embossing ink to the lower portion of my card through the Large Mermaid Scale stencil. I then covered it with WOW Cloud 9 Embossing Glitter and heat set it.
Next I stamped the little tropical island stamp from the Tropical Party stamp set onto a snippet of white card. I used Wild Honey Distress Oxide for the island portion, Tea Dye Distress Ink for the tree trunks, and Lucky Clover for the leaves.
I ink blended more Wild Honey to extend the sandy area from the Island, then spritzed it with water mixed with Perfect Pearls to give some texture. I made sure it was fully dry before die cutting with a Sizzix circle die and then fussy cut away the white area.
I used Hero Arts Caramel ink to add a sentiment from Tropical Party onto the island. I used foam squares to pop up the island and added it to my card base.
As a final touch I added some score lines to frame the top portion of the card.
I’m pretty pleased with this card. I think the sea would have looked more sea-like if it was blue or turquoise rather than silver, but I thought it would look good glittery and this is the embossing glitter I have. I’m actually trying to cut down on glitter because of the environmental impact of the micro-plastics. As such I am not buying any glitter products myself any more. This embossing powder came in a kit I got last year, rather than being bought directly. I do like the look of glitter, I just wish it didn’t have such a negative impact on the environment. Plus every time I use it I seem to have glitter on me for days afterwards! I actually did recently come across some environmentally friendly glitter, available here. (I’m not an affiliate, just interested!) Seems like a good way to get a glitter fix without the negative environmental effect!
