Happy August, everyone! This year is flying past, don’t you think? With the start of a new month comes a new release from Sasayaki Glitter. I have a card to inspire you using one of the new release images.
I started by printing two copies of the image 169 Love Sheep onto alcohol marker friendly paper. I’d actually only originally planned to have one copy but I printed them before I got my new printer and the old printer caused some smudges. The second copy was a bit better, but still a little smudgey. But I was able to make use of both copies so it worked out in the end.
I used my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers to colour in the bodies of the sheep, just adding some light shading with my lightest grey and blending out with the blender pen to soften it. I didn’t add any colour to the wool. I then coloured the butterflies with a couple of soft purples, which I also used to colour the bow on my second copy of the image. I later came back and added a little blue to the eyes to help give them some roundness.
Then I dug out my Marvy Uchida Snow Pen. After giving it a good shake and starting the flow on a scratch piece of paper I applied the liquid from the pen all over the wool area of both sheep. I then heated it with my heat gun which caused it to bubble, puff up and set giving fun texture to the wool area. I added half a foam square behind onto the area of bow peeking out from behind the wool, and adhered the fussy cut bow from the other image over the top.
Finally I adhered the panel to a purple card base that coordinated well with the purple of the butterflies and bow.
Using the snow pen is such a fun way to add texture and detail to wool. I’ve used it before on a llama card and really loved the way it looked then. That said, I think maybe I would have been better giving the sheep different coloured bodies as the stark white doesn’t look quite right in my opinion. I think brown or black bodies may have worked better. Still, the texture is fun and the elements come together nicely. Using the snow pen really speeds up the process for the card making.
Love,
Lady Joyful
